COLUMBIA, S.C. –
The South Carolina volleyball team hosts its annual “Dig for a Cure” match this Friday against Tennessee. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and arrive early for the 7 p.m. EDT start at the Volleyball Competition Facility, as the first 100 fans will receive a free “Dig for the Cure” t-shirt.

The Gamecocks are one of many teams that participate in this nationwide promotion. Each dig that South Carolina makes during the contest will be worth one dollar. Fans can also donate money during the night via straight donations or through a per-dig figure.

In addition to these donations, many schools throughout the Midlands area are participating. Other groups also have the chance to donate money to the cause in conjunction with this event.

As the “Dig for the Cure” program has grown, well over $36,000 has been contributed to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure campaign to raise both money and awareness for the effects of breast cancer. All proceeds generated by the Gamecocks and other participating organizations will be forwarded directly to the local affiliate.

Last season, the Garnet and Black, along with the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, raised $5,401 for breast cancer research and prevention.
