South Carolina finished 10th at the SEC Championships Monday morning with 262 points. The Gamecocks improved on last year’s finish and were only 10 points shy of claiming the ninth-place spot.
Freshman Beatrice Biwott led the way for the Gamecocks for the fifth-consecutive time this season, finishing 30th overall. Biwott was the fifth freshman to cross the finish line, improving her 6K time by more than 20 seconds. Junior Danielle Barnes came in second for the Gamecocks, finishing 50th overall with a time of 22:56. Freshman Amanda Smith had one of her best races this season, finishing third for the Gamecocks and 61st overall. Sophomore Ashley Evens also added points for the Gamecocks, racing to a 67th-place finish, while freshmen Erin Fedewa and Elizabeth Heath finished 73rd and 74th, respectively. Freshman Nicole Rheinlander rounded out the scoring for the Gamecocks, finishing 79th.
Arkansas claimed the its 13th team title with 46 points. Florida finished second with 53 points, while Tennessee raced to third with 107 points. Sophomore Catherine White of Arkansas took home the individual title finishing with a time of 20:07.
The Gamecocks are back in action Saturday, Nov. 15, when they travel to Clemmons N.C., to compete at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet. The women’s race is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
