ATHENS, Ga. – South Carolina men’s tennis picked up three wins at the Bulldog Scramble today, hosted by University of Georgia. Junior Pedro Campos continued his singles winning streak with another victory Saturday after splitting his doubles matches. Through two days of play in the event, the Gamecocks are an even 10-10 in singles play and 4-5 in doubles action.
In the first round of doubles Saturday, South Carolina could not score a victory, but the Gamecocks turned it around in the second trio of matches. Diego Cubas and Johannes Pulsfort topped Georgia Tech’s Kevin King and Ryan Smith 9-7 to kick things off. Campos and Ivan Machado teamed up to cruise past Tech’s Austin Roebuck and Miguel Muguruza. Thomas Stoddard and Joseph Veeder finished off the afternoon’s doubles matches with an 8-6 win over Yellow Jackets Dusan Miljevic and Eliot Potvin.
Machado got the singles portion of the schedule off to a good start with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Georgia’s Javier Garrapiz. Pulsfort and Sheehan dropped their two-set matches before Campos got the Gamecocks back on track with a commanding 6-1, 6-4 win over Miljevic. Veeder scored the other South Carolina victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Shane Collins of Kentucky.
The Bulldog Scramble wraps up on Sunday at 10 a.m. with a final round of singles.
