DALLAS, Texas – South Carolina sophomore striker Sam Arthur and sophomore goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer were selected to the eleven-member 2008 Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. The 2008 squad consists of four defenders, five midfielders, one forward and one goalkeeper.

Arthur led the league during the regular season with 11 goals and 25 points in overall games. He also contributed three assists, 49 shots and six game-winning goals. The Roswell, Ga., native collected two goals in conference play, both game winners, while also contributing one assist. Arthur ranked in the top 25 national statistics throughout the season, while earning conference and national player of the week honors. Arthur earned the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal last year, along with C-USA Academic Honor Roll honors.

Jimmy Maurer

Maurer paced the Gamecock defense during the regular season, collecting a 0.77 goals against average and eight shutouts in overall games. He earned a 0.79 goals against average in conference games, while collecting three shutouts against league foes. Maurer tallied at least three saves in every match this season, including a season-high eight against North Carolina. He garnered four C-USA Defensive Player of the Week awards to tie for the most C-USA weekly honors in a single season. Maurer earned the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal last year, along with C-USA Academic Honor Roll honors.

South Carolina faces SMU in the C-USA Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET.
