Opening statement…
Glad to get a win in our opener, obviously. It was similar to our exhibition, as I expect it will be in our first couple of games. We saw some things that we liked tonight. We saw some things we didn’t like so much tonight, specifically in the second half. We have some growing to do in game situations, but we also faced some adversity tonight with foul trouble and Brandis (Raley-Ross) going down in the first half, but we still found a way to finish the game out.
On whether foul trouble may be a concern throughout the season…
We don’t want it to be. I can tell you that. I think it’s something that we need to be aware of, not just because of our personnel and depth, but just because it’s not a good thing to get in the habit of doing. We’ll have to evaluate the film to see if it was their good play or if it was our mistakes. It’s not something we want to get in a habit of.
On if the team played his style of basketball…
We saw it in spots. I think we saw some really good things, especially in the first half with our effort. We were flying around and creating steals. In the second half, we had to go to zone because of our foul situation and with our manpower and not having spent a lot of time at that to do a good job of it, but yeah we saw some positive things. We still have a long way to go.
Senior Guard – Zam Fredrick
On the team’s play against JSU…
That’s the way we play the game. The game plan is do what we do, and do it well. Overall, we just have to play the game we know how, the best way we know how. We were rushing shots when we were up. We have that to work on.
Junior Guard – Devan Downey
Talking about level of energy…
It’s very hard, but as players that’s what you have to work on, maintaining that level the whole 40 minutes. That’s when you can become a good basketball team.
I think overall I was happy with the effort, but we still have a few things that we need to go back and look at, and we need to be more mentally strong.
