CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Tony White Jr. made two free throws with 3.4 seconds to play in overtime to lift the College of Charleston to an 82-80 victory over South Carolina on Friday night.
The win was Charleston’s second over the Gamecocks in 29 tries and the first since 1930.
White led Charleston (5-1) with 21 points while Andrew Goudelock added 20.
Devan Downey led the Gamecocks (4-1) with 22 points.
With the score tied at 80, Downey missed a driving layup and Charleston rebounded with 23 seconds to play.
Charleston worked for the last shot, with White driving to the basket and drawing a foul from Zam Fredrick with 3.4 seconds left.
South Carolina led 25-12 midway through the first half, by 11 points with 6:49 left and 76-74 with 11.7 seconds on the clock. Goudelock tied the score with 2.7 seconds remaining to force overtime.
