BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – Johnna Letchworth (Burlington, Conn.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the South Carolina equestrian team for the 2009-10 season, Gamecock head coach Boo Major announced.
“Johnna is a top notch equestrian,” Major said. “It is exciting to have such an accomplished Hunt Seat and Western standout as a future Gamecock.”
Letchworth is a three-time All-American Quarter Horse Congress champion in Hunt Seat Equitation and two-time reserve champion. Overall, she has posted 14 top 10 finishes at Congress in Trail, Showmanship, Horsemanship and Hunt Seat Equitation. Letchworth was also the 2003 Reserve World Champion in Hunt Seat Equitation in addition to earning two top 10 finishes at World Show in Trail and Hunt Seat Equitation. The 2005 12-14 All-Around Youth champion at Congress, Letchworth also has circuit championships and all-around wins at major show circuits, including RedBud, Texas Classic, Gold Coast Series and the East Coast Championship Show, widely considered to be the most exciting Quarter Horse show in the United States.
Letchworth attends Lewis S. Mills High School and trains at Powder Brook Farm by Gene Spagnola and her mother Gretchen Mathes. Her parents are Mathes and Charles Letchworth.
