The Dawn Staley Foundation, working with Select Health of South Carolina, hosted the Dawn Staley Grandparents Breakfast Wednesday morning at the Brookland Baptist Church Banquet and Conference Center in West Columbia. Nearly 70 grandparents were honored for the sacrifices they made not only for their children but for their grandchildren as well. Names were submitted by area churches, local radio stations and the AARP, and the Dawn Staley Foundation brought everyone together to enjoy breakfast and be showered with gifts.

Several Gamecock players took time out from studying for exams to help serve breakfast and hand out gifts. Also on hand to help with the food service were area dignitaries, including:
J.T. McLawhorn, President and Chief Officer of Columbia Urban League
Clente Fleming, President of South Carolina Community Bank
Bernice Scott, Richland County Council
I.S. Leevy Johnson, Attorney
Monica Washington, WFMV Radio
Chris Leevy Johnson, Pastor of Brookland Baptist Northeast
Charles Jackson, Jr., Pastor of New Lauren Street Baptist
Duce Staley, Former Gamecock football player and local radio personality
W.F. Johnny Green, Kiss FM
Raymond Harrison, University of South Carolina Director of Academics and Life Skills

Terry Davenport of Select Health of South Carolina and Judi Gatson of WIS News served as the emcees of the event.
