COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina golfers George Bryan IV and Wesley Bryan, along with former Gamecock Mark Anderson, will compete in the prestigious Jones Cup Invitational this weekend at Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga. The Jones Cup Invitational is a 54-hole stroke-play event whose field consists of some of the top amateurs in the world.

The Bryan brothers have been South Carolina’s top two golfers thus far during the 2008-09 season. George Bryan, a junior, has the Gamecocks’ best stroke average at 73.42 through four tournaments this season. Freshman Wesley Bryan, meanwhile, has a tournament victory to his credit at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate in early November and carries a 73.58 stroke average. The younger Bryan is currently ranked as the No. 37 amateur in the world by the Royal & Ancient World Amateur Golf Ranking, and the elder Bryan is rated 69th overall.

Mark Anderson was the team leader during the 2007-08 season, recording three top-10 finishes and a stroke average of 72.00 in 29 competitive rounds. Since graduating, Anderson has made a name for himself on the amateur circuit, including a major victory at the NEC Master of the Amateurs in Melbourne, Australia, in January. He is currently ranked No. 30 in the WAGR.

The Jones Cup gets underway Friday morning. Anderson has the first tee time among Gamecock golfers, going off the No. 1 tee at 10:39 a.m. and paired with Mike McCoy and Nigel Edwards. Wesley Bryan starts on the No. 10 tee at 11:24 a.m., paired with Carlton Forrester and Luke Goddard. George Bryan IV will begin his first round at 11:33 a.m. on the No. 1 tee, paired with Indiana’s Jorge Campillo, the No. 2-ranked amateur in the world, and Cory Whitsett.
