COLUMBIA, S.C. – Earning a 3.0 or higher grade point average over the last two semesters, 27 South Carolina student-athletes earned spots on the 2008-09 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll, Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive announced today. Overall, 373 student-athletes from the league’s 12 institutions were named to the Academic Honor Roll, which takes into account grades from the 2008 Spring, Summer and Fall terms.
Alabama topped the SEC list with 48 student-athletes, while Kentucky was a close second with 45. Both schools participate in at least one more sport during the season than the Gamecocks.
For the Gamecocks, the women’s swimming and diving team led the way with 14 selections, and their male counterparts had seven. Women’s basketball put four players on the list for the second-straight season, and men’s basketball had two representatives.
