COLUMBIA, S.C. – Junior center Mitchell Carter will not return to the Gamecock men’s basketball team, South Carolina head coach Darrin Horn announced on Wednesday. The two have agreed that by parting ways Carter will have an opportunity to finish his career at another school where he will have the ability to contribute and excel as a student-athlete.

Carter, a 6-10, 270-pound center, contributed 1.1 points and 0.6 rebounds per game in 20 appearances during the 2008-09 campaign. Carter’s top performance of the season came in an eight-point, four-rebound effort in a Carolina win against NC Central in mid-December. Carter averaged 0.7 points and 0.6 rebounds during his Gamecock career.
