TAMPA. Fla. – South Carolina rising junior goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer has been named the PDL (Premier Development League) Goalkeeper of the Year, as announced by the organization on Tuesday. Maurer helped lead the Chicago Fire PDL squad to a second-place finish in the Great Lakes Division. He earned a 10-1-3 record with seven shutouts during the season.
Maurer tied for third in the league in wins and second in shutouts. His goals against average was also second in the league at 0.64 as he helped guide the club to a season with just 12 goals allowed in 16 games. That total was tied for the second-lowest total in the league.
South Carolina begins its 2009 season in late August with an exhibition contest at Stone Stadium against High Point University.
