COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore Kayla Grimsley picked up two national honors this week in being selected to the Soccer America National Team of the Week in addition to being named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week.

The Soccer America honor is the second in Grimsley’s career, and it is her first recognition by CollegeSoccer360.com. She finished the week with two goals, including the game-winning goal to defeat No. 17 UCF.

Grimsley extended her season-opening scoring streak to eight games with goals in both of South Carolina’s wins over the weekend against #17 UCF and South Alabama. Grimsley set the new South Carolina record with her eight-match scoring streak – besting the six-match scoring streak she set last year as a freshman. Grimsley also tied her program record four-match goal streak with her goal against South Alabama. She is now tied for the SEC lead in goals (7) and points (15).

Against the 17th-ranked Knights, Grimsley hit the game-winner at 27:18 with a header past the reigning NSCAA Player of the Week for the score. She scored another against South Alabama in the 56th minute to help keep the Gamecocks perfect on the year. Grimsley now has a .538 shot percentage (7 goals on 13 shots) and a .769 shot on goal percentage (10 of 13 shots have been on goal) this year.

No. 11 South Carolina (8-0-0) returns to action this weekend when the team hosts Vanderbilt (6-1-1) Friday night in the SEC opener for both teams. The match will be televised live on Fox Sports South with a starting time of 7 p.m. at Stone Stadium.
