The University of South Carolina men’s soccer team (5-3-1) returns home after a five-game road trip to host the Furman Paladins (4-4-2) in a midweek, non-conference contest on Wednesday at Stone Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Series Information
South Carolina owns a 17-8-4 upperhand in the all-time series between the two schools, including a 9-5-1 mark in games played in Columbia. The Paladins have held momentum in the series of late, having won three of the last five meetings between the two schools. South Carolina’s last victory in the series came in a 3-2 overtime win on the road during the 2001 campaign.
Scouting Furman
The Paladins enter Wednesday’s contest with a 4-4-2 overall record, including an 0-1-0 mark in Southern Conference action. Furman has defeated Presbyterian, North Florida, Lipscomb and Belmont this season. Senior forward Debola Ogunseye leads the team with four goals and six assists on the year for a total of 14 points, while goalkeepers Alex Kann and Maros Valko have combined for a 1.15 goals against average on the year.
Carolina All-Time In Conference Action
Since becoming a varsity sport, the Gamecock men’s soccer team has competed as an independent in all but seven seasons. South Carolina spent the 1993 and 1994 seasons as a member of the Metro Conference, and the last four seasons in C-USA. During its time in the Metro Conference, Carolina amassed an 8-1-1 record. Combined with its C-USA mark, South Carolina owns a 26-9-9 all-time record against league competitors when a member of a conference.
South Carolina Defeats UCF 3-1 In C-USA Opener
In South Carolina’s win over Central Florida last Sunday, UCF held a 19-10 shot advantage over the Gamecocks, with three of those Carolina shots resulting in goals. Junior striker Sam Arthur posted three shots and tallied two goals, including the game winner, while senior forward Bryan Lowder added a goal, his first of the season for the Gamecocks. All three Carolina goals were unassisted. South Carolina goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer played a stellar game in net, collecting six saves, including four in the second half.
