COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina fans who purchased women’s basketball season tickets in the reserved seat section descended on Colonial Life Arena Wednesday afternoon to enjoy lunch with the team and to choose their exact seat locations for the 2009-10 season. The reserved seating section is new this season, and this is the first time the program has welcomed fans to choose their seats in person.

“It’s a great event that I hope will get bigger and bigger every year,” South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley said. “We’re excited that this group of season-ticket holders who have been so supportive of our program is the first to have the opportunity to choose seats. We look forward to seeing them in those spots for many years to come.”

Among those on hand to select her domain for the season was Helen Timmermans, who was named the University’s first associate director of athletics for women back in January 1974. The long-time administrator has been following the Gamecocks from the inception of the program and is pleased with its latest expansion.

“An idea like this is great for the program,” Timmermans said. “It’s great to know that we don’t have to come early or fight for our seats every game.”

Those who purchased a season ticket in the reserved section but did not choose a seat today will be assigned the best available location. Those individuals may call the ticket office at 803-777-4274 with specific location requests, which will be fulfilled if available.
