COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s women’s golf team plays the third of four fall tournaments this weekend as it makes the trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Lady Tar Heel Invitational. The tournament, which runs Friday-Sunday, will be played at the par 72, 6,285-yard UNC Finley Golf Course on the campus of the University of North Carolina.

The Gamecocks will send out a lineup of seniors Corrine Carr and Benedicte Toumpsin, sophomore Katie Burnett and freshmen Amanda Strang and Meredith Swanson. Carr. Toumpsin and Burnett all played in this event last season.

This will be the 23rd time for South Carolina to appear in the Lady Tar Heel event. Last season, the Gamecocks finished 12th out of 18 teams with Burnett Leading the way with a tie for 17th place. South Carolina’s best finish in the event came in the 1998-99 season when the Gamecocks finished in third place.

Another strong field awaits the 25th-ranked Gamecocks this week in Chapel Hill. Fifteen of the 18 teams in the field are ranked in GolfWeek’s top 50; all of them are rated 36th or better. The Gamecocks will face #4 Auburn, #6 Denver, #10 Michigan State, #12 Alabama, #13 Duke, #19 Texas A&M, #20 Florida State, #21 Virginia, #22 Louisville, #28 Kent State, #30 Wake Forest, #33 North Carolina, #35 Tennessee and #36 Vanderbilt. Also in the field are East Carolina, NC State and UNC Wilmington.

The tournament gets underway Friday with 18 holes to be played each day. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. off No. 1 and No. 10 tees on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, there will be a shotgun start at approximately 9:15 a.m. Tee times for each team were unavailable as of Thursday morning; they will be posted on Golfstat later in the day.
