CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior Corrine Carr shot a 1-under-par 71 on Sunday to lead South Carolina in the final round of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational. The Gamecocks shot 302 as a team to finish the tournament in 13th place at 893 (+29) at the UNC Finley Golf Course.

Carr’s round of 71 was her best in two years as a Gamecock, surpassing a pair of 72s she shot earlier in the season. Starting on the 12th hole with the shotgun start, Carr made six straight pars before a birdie at the 18th. She would make bogey as she started the front nine, but erased that with birdie at No. 2. Another birdie at the sixth hole got her to 2-under, but a bogey at the 10th would leave her at 1-under for the day. She finished at 223 (+7) for the week, tied for 38th place.

Senior Benedicte Toumpsin was the low Gamecock for the week with rounds of 72-74-75=221 (+5). Her closing-round 75 included two bogeys on the front nine and another pair of bogeys along with one birdie on the back side. She would finish tied for 21st.

Freshmen Meredith Swanson and Amanda Strang tied for 53rd place at 227 (+11). Swanson shot 79 on Sunday while Strang finished with an 80. Sophomore Katie Burnett shot 77 on Sunday to finish at 12-over, tied for 61st place.

Michigan State was the wire-to-wire tournament champion at 860 (-4), 12 shots ahead of runner-up Auburn (+8). Alabama finished third at 11-over with Texas A&M and Vanderbilt tied for fourth at 16-over.

Louisville’s Sara-Maude Juneau ran away with medalist honors, shooting her second straight round of 68 (-4) on Sunday to finish at 206 (-10) and take a six-stroke victory. Vanderbilt’s Marina Alex and Michigan State’s Laura Kueny tied for second at 4-under.

It will be a quick turnaround for South Carolina with their next tournament beginning Friday, Oct. 16, in Knoxville, Tenn., at the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championship.
