COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s soccer team (6-3-2, 1-0-1 C-USA) will host Conference USA foe SMU (5-5-1, 1-1-1 C-USA) in a midweek matchup at Stone Stadium on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Series Information
SMU holds a 5-4-2 upperhand in all-time series with South Carolina, however the Gamecocks hold a 3-1-0 lead in games played in Columbia. The teams met twice last season, with the squads ending in a 1-1 tie during the regular season, and Carolina earning a 3-0 victory over the Mustangs in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament. South Carolina has not won a regular-season match against SMU since a 3-0 victory at Stone Stadium during the 2005 season.

SMU enters Wednesday’s contest with a 5-5-1 overall record, including a 1-1-1 mark in C-USA action. The Mustangs most recently suffered a 4-1 loss to surprise C-USA leader Marshall last Saturday. SMU owns a 2-2-1 record in its last five outings. Dane Saintus paces SMU with six goals and four assists for a total of 16 points on the year, while veteran Paulo da Silva has tallied four goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Craig Hill has played every minute in net for the Mustangs thus far in the season, holding a 1.34 goals against average, while collecting three shutouts on the year.

South Carolina junior forward Sam Arthur was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week on Monday. Arthur tallied two goals and earned an assist on Blake Brettschneider’s game-winning tally last Wednesday in a 3-2 victory over intrastate rival Furman in non-conference acton. Arthur leads the Gamecocks with seven goals and two assists on the year for a total of 16 points.
Gamecocks And Tulsa Battle To 1-1 Draw
South Carolina and Tulsa met on the pitch on Sunday and played through 110 minutes to end in a 1-1 tie in the C-USA matchup. Carolina scored on a penalty kick by senior forward Bryan Lowder in the 76th minute, but Tulsa continued to battle, scoring the tying goal in the 90th minute to push the contest into overtime.
Maurer Climbing Career Record Book
Gamecock goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer is just 1.5 shutouts away from ranking in the top five in South Carolina history for shutouts in a career. Maurer enters Wednesday’s contest versus SMU ranked fourth in C-USA with a 0.96 goals against average for the year.
