COLUMBIA, S.C. – For the second consecutive season, junior Sam Arthur and classmate Jimmy Maurer were honored with selection to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District (III) First Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday. To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must hold at least a 3.3 grade point average and be a sophomore in academic and athletic standing.

Arthur paces the Gamecock offense with eight goals and two assists for a total of 16 points. The Roswell, Ga., native has scored three-game winning goals on the year, the first against archrival Clemson. He has been named to the Soccer America Team of the Week (Sept. 8) and the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week (Oct. 12) this season. His 41 shots are also a team-best.

Maurer, a Lawrenceville, Ga., native has played every minute in net for Carolina in 2009 and currently owns a 1.19 goals against average on the year. He has collected five shutouts, has tallied 58 saves and ranks fourth in the league in goals against average.

South Carolina returns home to host Marshall on Senior Night this Saturday. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Stone Stadium.
