COLUMBIA, S.C. –
South Carolina’s “Read with the Gamecocks” reading program has kicked off its first segment of the program, themed Hard Work and Perseverance. The program took place September 21 through October 2. Each participant recorded the amount of pages read with his/her parent or guardian’s approval. At the end of the contest, participants submitted their results to their teachers. The 3,327 students read a combined one million pages. Winners from each grade (K-5) were selected and will be honored at the Hard Work and Perseverance game against Penn State on November 22.
The winners for this segment are from the following schools:
Winning school – Cyril B. Busbee Elementary
Kindergarten – Mellichamp Elementary
1st Grade – Webber Elementary
2md Grade – Broad River Elementary
3rd Grade – Burton-Pack Elementary
4th Grade – Cyril B. Busbee Elementary
5th Grade – Burton Pack Elementary
South Carolina invites schools to continue to participate in the program. The remaining segments of the “Read with the Gamecocks” program are scheduled as follows:

Literacy and Education
