AUBURN, Ala. – South Carolina men’s tennis closed out its fall season at the Auburn Fall Invitational at Yarbrough Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. For the third-straight day, it was senior Diego Cubas and sophomore Ivan Machado that led the Gamecocks in victories as both finished the tournament undefeated in both singles and doubles.
Cubas and Machado remained perfect in Flight One Doubles when Embry-Riddle’s Jan Hoekzema and Peter Francis retired after falling behind the Gamecock duo 5-0. Ivan Cressoni and Chris Sheehan bounced back from Saturday’s doubles loss to take an 8-5 victory over Charlie Rice and Luke Maricic of Embry-Riddle in Flight Two action.
Ranked No. 28 in the nation, Cubas stayed perfect for the tournament with his third singles victory in Flight One, rallying back to defeated Francis 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. Playing in Flight Two Singles, Machado notched a 6-3, 6-3 win over Rice. Sheehan recorded his first singles win of the season with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Embry-Riddle’s David Spennare in Flight Four Singles
