COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis will play its spring matches this season at Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center. Home to the South Carolina women’s program for the past 36 seasons, Maxcy Gregg will host both teams’ matches this spring as they prepare for a Spring 2011 move into a new $4.6 million facility. The Gamecock men plan to play their first outdoor match of the 2010 season on Sat., Feb. 27, against Appalachian State, weather permitting.
“The relationship our men’s and women’s teams have shared over the years will certainly be made stronger by sharing a facility, both this year and in the future,” South Carolina head men’s tennis coach Kent DeMars said. “We appreciate the adjustments the women’s team has made to accommodate the move. It is certainly a sacrifice for everyone that will pay off when both programs get into their new, first-rate facility next year.”
The new facility, which will be on the former site of Sarge Frye Field, features 12 lighted courts with total seating for 750 fans. Two main scoreboards will display individual scoring for each court, and the covered press area will be wired for all press functions. There will be 900 square feet of dedicated restroom facilities and 400 square feet of courtside storage.
