WACO, Texas – The tenth-seeded South Carolina Western team defeated No. 2 seed Auburn on Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Varsity Equestrian National Championships, hosted by Baylor University at the Heart O’ Texas Fair Coliseum in Waco. In Reining, the Gamecocks and Tigers tied 2-2, with South Carolina’s points coming from juniors Chloe Gray and Lydia Roof. It was the second win for both Gray and Roof, as the two juniors won their rides in Thursday’s opening round competition against No. 7 seed New Mexico State.

In Horsemanship, South Carolina got two critical points from senior Amy Biffle and sophomore Maggie Fortune. Senior captain Emily Bookwalter recorded her second tie in two days, keeping the Tigers from scoring the crucial point.
