COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior men’s golfer George Bryan IV has been named South Carolina’s AgSouth Athlete of the Week.

Bryan put together one of the best tournaments of his storied Gamecock career this weekend at the SEC Championship, tying for medalist honors with rounds of 70-66-68=204 (-6) at the par 70, 6,991-yard Sea Island Golf Club – Seaside Course. Despite falling on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to Georgia’s Russell Henley, Bryan became the second Gamecock men’s golfer to earn at least a share of medalist honors at the SEC Championship, joining Eric Ecker, who captured the title in 1998.

His score of 204 was his best of the season and equaled the second-best of his career, and it also shattered South Carolina’s SEC Championship record by seven shots. He tied his own mark from the 2007 NCAA West Regional for the lowest 54-hole score in school history. Bryan and Henley also tied for the second-lowest winning score in SEC Championship history since the event went to a 54-hole, medal play format in 1966.

Through 10 events this season, Bryan has a scoring average of 71.60, which would rank as the best single season in school history if the season ended today. His career stroke average of 72.45 also ranks as the best in South Carolina men’s golf history. He has tied for medalist honors twice this season, falling in playoffs both times, and has earned four top-five finishes and seven top-20 showings.
