NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Gamecock sophomore Wesley Bryan shot a second-round best four-under 66 on Friday afternoon, catapulting himself into the top 10 at the 2010 NCAA East Regional at the Course at Yale University.

Bryan enters Saturday’s final round at a three-under 137, four strokes behind leader Rhys Enoch of East Tennessee State. Bryan is tied with Alex Kim and T.J. Howe for sixth place in the individual field.

South Carolina as a unit was a shot better in the second round than the first, firing a 285, and remains within striking distance of the final qualifying spot for the NCAA Championship. Virginia holds that fifth spot at 565 (+5), while three teams, East Tennessee State, UNC Wilmington and Charlotte, are one stroke back of the Cavaliers. Vanderbilt is ninth at 568 (+8), with the Gamecocks and Alabama standing at 571 (+11).

Seniors Paul Woodbury and George Bryan IV fired even-par 70s in the second round to tie for 19th in the tourney at +1. Senior Patrick Rada carded a nine-over 79, while freshman Clint Tolleson posted an 81 (+11).

Kent State, at five-under 555, has tied first-round leader Texas for the top spot heading into the third. Penn State stands third at even-par 560, and UCLA is fourth at 563 (+3). Southeastern Louisiana is 12th at 573 (+13), with Columbia (+26) and Lafayette (+44) rounding out the field.

Saturday’s round kicks off for the Gamecocks at 8:20 a.m. EDT, pairing with Alabama and second-round group-mate Southeastern Louisiana, with live scoring hopefully provided at Golfstat.com.
