COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s soccer alum Brad Guzan was one of 23 players named to the final roster for the 2010 FIFA World Cup by U. S. National Team head coach Bob Bradley on Wednesday. The U.S. will open its sixth-consecutive World Cup appearance against England on June 12 in Rustenburg, South Africa.
Guzan’s selection marks the third-consecutive U.S. World Cup roster with a former Gamecock selected, as Clint Mathis was on the 2002 roster and Josh Wolff was a two-time selection in 2002 and 2006.
Guzan has 14 career appearances with the National Team, including three shutouts in five World Cup qualifier starts. His first appearance in a World Cup qualifier came against Barbados, where he earned his first shutout for the U.S. in the 8-0 victory.
The U.S. Men’s National Team has been drawn into Group C with England, Slovenia and Algeria for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Following its opener versus England, the U.S. will follow with matches against Slovenia on June 18 in Johannesburg and Algeria on June 23 in Tshwane/Pretoria.
