COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former South Carolina point guard Devan Downey has been named to the Sacramento Kings 2010 NBA Summer League roster, it was announced on Thursday. Downey, who concluded a standout Gamecock career in March, will join the squad for its sixth-consecutive year competing in the Las Vegas event, July 9-18. The team will play six games in seven days, beginning with a July 12 contest against Detroit.

Downey is among 16 players who earned a spot on the Kings’ summer league roster, including fellow Southeastern Conference competitors DeMarcus Cousins (5th overall draft pick, Kentucky), Wayne Chism (Tennessee) and Steven Hill (1 year of experience, Arkansas). Kings assistant coach Mario Elie will coach the squad in the Las Vegas event.

Downey scored 699 points and led the SEC with 22.5 points per game during his senior season at South Carolina. He became Carolina’s first-ever SEC scoring champion in 2009-10, posting an impressive 26.2 points per game in league play. Downey scored 20 or more points 19 times as a senior, and tallied 30 or more six times, including in five SEC contests. Downey concluded his career in the Garnet and Black fourth on the all-time scoring list (1,901) and first in field goals attempted (1,634), steals (277) and steals per game (2.94).
