COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina equestrian coach Boo Major announced the signing of Amber Henter to a National Letter of Intent to join the Gamecocks for the 2010-2011 season. She will be on the Gamecocks’ Hunter Seat squad.

A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., Henter attended Florida Virtual High School. In Equitation Over Fences, she was trained by Emil Spodone of Redfield Farms, and Val Renihan of Findley’s Ridge Farm trained her in Equitation.

“We are very happy that Amber has decided to attend South Carolina,” Major said. “She has an extremely extensive background in equitation on the flat and over fences and is currently ranked third in the coountry in the Bates Equitation rankings. She trains with Emil Spadone who also sent us Eleanor Kunsman so we look forward to having another one of his students join our ranks.”

Her 2010 season was highlighted by winning WEF Circuit Equitation Champion, and she is currently ranked in the top-5 on the Ryegate Equitation Standings and the WIHS Standing.

Showing in the USEF A and AA rated show, Henter made all of the finals the past three years. In 2009, she finished 8th in the ASPCA Maclay Finals. Also in 2009, she won 1st Place in Medium Jr. Jumpers at the PA National Horse Show while also winning the 2009 Ronnie Mutch Equitation Championship, Atlanta Equitation Challenge, President’s Equitation Cup in Saratoga, N.Y.

Personal: She was born April 14, 1992… her parents are Ted and Mel Henter… She has two sisters, Emley and Elizabeth.
