COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s soccer team began its preseason camp for the upcoming 2010 season on Saturday morning on campus in Columbia. The team battled through humid conditions in its first of two practices of the day.

With the start of camp, the squad hit the fields at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning and began with a long warm-up session, before transitioning into various drills. South Carolina head coach Mark Berson and assistant coach Bert Molinary worked with the field players, while assistant coach Mike Babst worked with the South Carolina goalkeepers.

South Carolina is led by a veteran group of seniors in 2010, including forward Sam Arthur, forward Blake Brettschneider, goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer, forward Mike Lindsay, defender Evan O’Dell, defender Will Traynor, and fifth-year senior defender Mark Wiltse. Wiltse suffered a leg injury in the season opener versus Charlotte in 2009, but returns to finish his eligibility in 2010 on the field for the Gamecocks.

Twelve newcomers will don the Garnet and Black this season, a group that includes 10 freshmen and two transfer student-athletes. South Carolina enters preseason camp with a total of 31 student-athletes on its roster.

South Carolina returns to the practice fields this evening, and continues preseason camp through the middle of next week prior to the start of classes. Continue to visit GamecocksOnline.com for updates, photos and videos on Gamecock men’s soccer.
