DALLAS, Texas – University of South Carolina senior goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer was named the Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. The award is the seventh of Maurer’s career.

In front of a nationally-televised audience on Fox Soccer Channel last Friday, Maurer moved into fifth place in South Carolina history, collecting his 20th-career shutout, and first of the season, in South Carolina’s 2-0 victory over archrival Clemson. The win versus Clemson marked the fourth-straight for South Carolina over its archrival, and, impressively, also marked the fourth-straight shutout of the Tigers. Maurer played every minute in net for the Gamecocks in those four-consecutive victories.

Maurer shared the award with Kentucky freshman goalkeeper Tyler Beadle.

South Carolina returns to non-conference action when it travels to face Ivy League competitors Brown and Yale this weekend in the Brown Soccer Classic. The Gamecocks begin tournament play against Brown on Friday. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m.
