CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – South Carolina junior Ivan Machado advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Carolina Regional with a pair of straight-set wins Saturday. Alexander Kostanov fell just short of joining his teammate, falling in his second match of the day to end his run in the Round of 32.

Seeded 14th in the tournament, Machado brushed off his first-round bye quickly to claim a 6-4, 6-2 win over UNC Wilmington’s Kosta Blank in the Round of 64 Saturday morning. The Gamecock junior was even sharper in the Round of 32, facing Clemson’s Robert Pietrucha. A pair of service breaks gave Machado a 6-3 first-set win, and he conceded even less ground in the second set, winning 6-0. He will face Wake Forest’s Tripp Carleton, who is ranked No. 36 in the country, Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

Kostanov followed his efficient first-round victory Friday with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Alex Markov of Appalachian State Saturday morning in the Round of 64. Facing fourth-seeded Jamie Pulgar of NC State in the next round, however, the Gamecock sophomore suffered a 6-3, 6-2 defeat.
