COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior forward Blake Brettschneider, senior goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer and senior defender Will Traynor have all been named to the CoSIDA ESPN Academic All-District III First Team, as announced November 2 by the Academic All-America Committee.

Three Academic All-District teams are chosen in each district, with those on the All-District first teams placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. All three of South Carolina’s honorees will move on to the national ballot. To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must hold at least a 3.3 grade point average and be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing.

Brettschneider has tallied four goals, including two game winners, in 14 games this season for the Garnet and Black. He leads the team and is tied for the C-USA lead with eight assists on the year, while he also paces the Gamecocks in shots (43) and shots on goal (21). Brettschneider has factored in on 12 of South Carolina’s 19 goals this season.

Maurer has played all but 17 minutes in goal for South Carolina in 2010 and leads C-USA with seven shutouts. He has collected 58 saves, and has earned at least three saves in 11 of 16 contests. For the first time in his career, Maurer has also collected two assists this season. With his 26 career shutouts, he ranks second all-time in South Carolina history in the category.

Traynor has scored five goals on the year, which is tied for the team lead. His first-career game-winning goal came in a crucial C-USA matchup on the road at then-No. 5 Tulsa. Traynor has helped Carolina secure seven shutouts in contests he has played in this season.

South Carolina travels to face Kentucky on Nov. 7 in the final regular season contest for both schools. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
