COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kayla Grimsley from the South Carolina women’s soccer team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the week.
Grimsley led the Gamecocks at the SEC Tournament with a goal and an assist to push Carolina to its second consecutive SEC Tournament Final. The All-SEC Tournament selection also hit the game-winning penalty kick in shootouts against Kentucky and LSU to help the Gamecocks advance to the final round.
With her assist against Kentucky, Grimsley became the first Gamecock to notched 10 goals and 10 assists in a season. Her goal against LSU in the semifinal round pushed her into a tie with Jennie Ondo for the South Carolina single-season points record, a mark that has held for 15 years. Grimsley has 12 goals and 10 assists for 34 points to hit that record.
