COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina is pleased to announce the hiring of Judy Van Horn for the position of Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator in its Department of Athletics. Van Horn comes to Carolina after a nine-year tenure at the University of Michigan. Serving as Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at Michigan, Van Horn maintained responsibility for the University’s athletics compliance program and was a member of the Athletics Department’s Leadership Team.

Prior to her tenure at Michigan, Van Horn spent four years in the Department of Athletics at Michigan State University and eight years at her alma mater, Central Michigan University.

“We are delighted with the hiring of Judy Van Horn as Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator. Judy brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the University of South Carolina’s Athletics Department,” stated Eric Hyman, Director of Athletics. “We are very excited about her leadership and her national reputation in the areas of athletics compliance and NCAA certification. She will be a wonderful addition to our department.”

A highly respected professional in the area of athletics compliance, Van Horn currently serves on the D1-A Athletics Directors Association Compliance Task Force, the Board of Directors for the National Association of Athletics Compliance and the NCAA Committee on Athletics Certification, as well as the Big Ten Compliance and Reinstatement Subcommittee and the Big Ten Drug Testing Review Subcommittee. Additionally, Van Horn served a two-year term as President of the National Association for Athletics Compliance. She was the 2005 recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award granted by the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) and the 2010 recipient of the Frank Kara Leadership Award, the premier award bestowed to a member of the compliance profession.

I am looking forward to joining Eric Hyman’s management team and helping them continue their advancement of South Carolina athletics.”

At South Carolina, Van Horn will oversee all NCAA related initiatives, including athletics certification and the athletics compliance program, as well as NCAA, SEC, university and department policies. Van Horn will supervise a variety of sports programs and will serve on the department’s management team.

Van Horn holds a master’s degree in sport administration and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Central Michigan University. She and her husband, Dave, have three adult children and three grandchildren.
