South Carolina Head Coach Dawn Staley
On rebounding successfully
“We’re concentrating on it. Ashley’s [Bruner] doing a great job of just getting after it. I think she’s been relentless on the boards, and I think her teammates are doing a good job of following her lead. I’m quite sure everybody would like to have 15 and then follow up with 12 rebounds. Our guards are getting a little more involved with it. They certainly have to do that for us.”
Rating the team’s performance
“A win is a win. We still have some things that we need to correct from an offensive standpoint. But we did share the ball a little bit more. We did drive to the basket a little bit more, which opened the game up for us. From last year to this year, we have lost a lot of games. So, it is just good to get a win and get it at home.”
Marah Strickland- Jr. – Guard
On hitting a big shot to start the second half that set the tempo
“It felt great. My teammates have been making great passes to me in both of our games, and it felt great to put the ball in the net. After that it was on to the next shot, though.”
On the play of the team
“We have really been focusing on sharing the ball and making the extra pass, and we can really feel it out there. Everyone is getting good touches and looking for that extra pass. We did that well tonight.”
Ashley Bruner- So. – Forward
On her second-straight double-double
“Yes, it definitely feels like [things are going right for me]. Rebounding is key. I just go for the ball and forget everything else. Scoring is a direct result from rebounding.”
On out-rebounding the teams they have played
“The other teams have not been boxing us out. They have not been aggressive going for offensive rebounds, so we have tried to take advantage of that. We always try to have four people in the paint and one back. We go over that every practice.”
