COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina equestrian coach Boo Major has announced the signing of Alexa Anthony to a national letter of intent to join the Gamecocks for the 2011-2012 season. Anthony will be competing with South Carolina’s Hunt Seat squad.

“We are very excited to have Alexa as part of our Gamecock family. She comes from a very strong riding family which has given her the opportunity to ride lots of different horses and get lots of mileage in many different ways,” Major said. “We have always been very pleased with the riders we have pulled out of the Northwest and I think Alexa will not disappoint.”

An experienced rider, Anthony trains with Cara Anthony and Karen Healy. Anthony brings an impressive resume to the Gamecocks. Among some of her many accolades:

2010
– First Place, Maclay Regionals
– Runner-up, EAP Nationals
– Ninth Place, USET Finals West
– Fourth place, Ronnie Mutch Equitation Classic

2008
– Second Place, Maclay Regionals

A senior at The Overlake School in Redmond, Wash., Anthony is a member of the O.P.E.N. club, a group that discusses global and local issues. Her parents are Jeff and Cara Anthony, and her sister Carly Anthony is a member of the equestrian team at Georgia. When she enrolls at South Carolina next year, Anthony plans to major in Spanish, and minor in Italian.
