South Carolina Head Coach Dawn Staley
On Ieasia Walker’s overall play.
There’s no question that she can score the ball. She got hot, and this is the kind of game that’s going to build her confidence. She’s got to run our basketball team. If she can score as much as she scored and run our basketball team, that’s about as complete as she can get. She’s still got some things she can work on, but we will definitely take the 30 points tonight. She put us on her back and took us to victory.
On the South Carolina – Clemson Rivalry.
I think this game is important for a lot of reasons: recruiting [and] the rivalry. A lot of people in Columbia, South Carolina, want every team to beat Clemson. We were one of the few teams that hadn’t done that since I’ve been here. I wanted to make sure I’m in the group of good coaches.
On Jewel May and Markeshia Grant’s play.
Jewel, I’m really proud of how she played. She doesn’t get a whole lot of touches in our offense; she does all the dirty work. I think she wants to contribute in the scoring column. She made a conscious effort to make composed and poised shots. When she’s doing that, she’s doing some great things for us. She did an excellent job defensively. She had some blocks, and she played with energy. Markeshia gives us a different look at the point position where she pushes the ball up the court. We’re going to need that kind of effort when we get on the road.

On her ability to score tonight versus the first two games
The game plan today was to attack the rim. My layups were falling and my jump shots were falling tonight. I was just making my shots today.
On how she felt shooting the ball
I just got in the zone. It felt good. I was shooting step back shots and pull up shots. It just felt like I could make everything.
On Coach Staley’s first win against Clemson
Neither of us know a whole lot about the rivalry, but we talked about it before the game. We knew we had lost to them twice. We lost to them in double overtime last year, so we really wanted to get the win today.
