Opening statement…
This was a game where we wanted to come out from the start, extend our pressure and get after it. We wanted to get the game going early at a fast pace. With a young team we had a hard time with that early. They showed some different looks and were mixing how they did some things and I thought we looked a little confused. We settled down after the first media timeout and started attacking and I think that really helped us. As we moved forward during the game we had a lot of mass substitutions because I wasn’t pleased with what was going on. It’s great to have a bench; I’m really enjoying that. It’s saving my voice; I don’t have to scream so much; I can just take them out. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a box score where everybody on the team had at least two buckets. We’ll take the bright spots from it and continue to get better. There are a lot of little things that we can take from this game and move forward.
On Stephen Spinella’s play…
I think he’s playing with a lot of confidence. He’s doing the things that we thought he could do when we recruited him. We knew he was a good scorer, he’s athletic. When kids focus on offense nothing else seems to go well, but when we focus on team things that don’t show up on the box score, it just seems like everything goes better.
On getting effort out of the team…
You have to recruit it. We recruit guys that play hard and compete when they play. We play hard in everything that we do. Another thing that’s helping us is our depth. Guys will play harder when they’re trying to get in the game. The number one motivator is if you are getting in the game or not.
