South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt Post Game Notes

TEAM NOTES

• The game is the second overtime contest of the season for both South Carolina and Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks won their overtime contest at Western Kentucky (87-85), and Vanderbilt lost its overtime contest at Missouri (85-82).
• The game is the first overtime game at Colonial Life Arena since South Carolina claimed an 82-78 victory against Arkansas on February 21, 2009.
• The victory is South Carolina’s first against a ranked opponent since defeating then-No. 13/19 Vanderbilt 77-73 in Nashville last season (March 6, 2010).
• It is South Carolina’s first win against a ranked team at home since knocking off No. 1 Kentucky 68-62 last season at Colonial Life Arena (January 26, 2010).
• South Carolina head coach Darrin Horn is now 3-1 in overtime games as head coach of the Gamecocks.
• South Carolina took its first lead of the game with 4:31 remaining in the first overtime period courtesy of a Bruce Ellington layup (74-72).
• South Carolina is now 8-12 all-time in SEC openers (home and away) and 9-11 in SEC home openers.
• The all-time series between South Carolina and Vanderbilt now moves to 24-23 in favor of the Gamecocks after the 83-75 victory. The teams entered the match with an even series at 23 victories each.
• South Carolina moves to 2-8 all-time vs. Vanderbilt when the Commodores enter the match ranked. Vanderbilt held a 22/24 ranking into Saturday’s matchup.
• Lakeem Jackson scored South Carolina’s first points of the game off a layup after a 3:28 scoring drought to open the game.
• Both team shot 13-for-29 (.448) from the field in the first half, but Vanderbilt built its 37-30 lead with an 8-for-10 effort from the free throw line compared to the 2-for-3 effort by South Carolina from the charity stripe.
• Four players scored in double-figures for South Carolina, led by the 22 points by Bruce Ellington. It is the eighth game that the Gamecocks have had four double-figure scorers this season.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

#15 Malik Cooke
• Pulled down a career high 13 rebounds. Cooke also added eight points, one assist, one block and one steal coming off the bench.

#23 Bruce Ellington
• Tied his career high with six made 3-pointers, tying the mark he set in a 6-for-13 effort at Furman.
• His three offensive rebounds (7 total) were a career best.

#12 Ramon Galloway
• His free throw with 3:10 remaining tied the game at 69-69, the first time since the opening bucket that South Carolina didn’t trail in the game.
• Is averaging 12 points a game over the last five contests after scoring 12 points Saturday.
• Tied his career high with three assists.

#30 Lakeem Jackson
• With his 15-point effort, Jackson has reach double figures in three consecutive games, averaging 14.7 points in the span (Boston College 12, SC State 17, Vanderbilt 15).

#44 Sam Muldrow
• Had his first career triple-double with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks. It was the first triple-double in Muldrow’s career and just the second by an SEC player this season – the other being Vanderbilt’s Brad Tinsley in the Commodores’ season opener.
• The triple-double was just the second in South Carolina history.
• Muldrow’s 10 blocked shots are a single-game high for an SEC player this season, surpassing the previous SEC individual single-game high of eight set by Arkansas’s Delvon Johnson (Seton Hall, Dec. 8, 2010).
• Had a career high with 10 blocks and is now just 34 blocks away from surpassing Brandon Wallace (249) for first place in Gamecock history. The six blocks tie his season high that he set in Carolina’s last game out against SC State.
• Had his fourth double-double of the season and fifth of his career. It was his third double-double in the past four games. It also marked his second career double-double against SEC opposition (Georgia, January 30, 2010).

#2 Brian Richardson
• Was held scoreless for the first time in his career after playing only nine minutes due to foul trouble.
