BRYAN, TX – The sixth-ranked Gamecock equestrian team began its Texas road trip with a 15-5 loss to No. 1 Texas A&M at the Brazos County Equestrian Complex on Friday. The loss drops South Carolina to 2-4, while the Aggies improve to 7-0.

Texas A&M began the competition sweeping Equitation Over Fences, 5-0. Emily Williams, Maggie Earle, Brooke Coleman, and Lia Chafee, and Kori Picket all scored points for the Aggies. Picket was named MVP.

The Aggies extended the score to 9-1 with a 4-1 win over the Gamecocks in Horsemanship. Redshirt freshman Johnna Letchworth won her ride, defeating the Aggies’ Randi Standley 72.5-69.5. A&M’s points came from Carey Nowacek, Amanda Brightwell, Katie Lisabeth, and Kelsey Adams. Adams was named MVP.

In Equitation on the Flat, the Aggies continued to roll with another 4-1 win. Freshman Emma Johnson scored the lone Gamecock point, as she defeated A&M’s Mariss Bernal 88-86. Sophomore Kimberly McCormack posted a career-high 94, but the Aggies’ Lia Chafee scored a 95 to win the point. Despite losing her ride, McCormack was named MVP, her fourth MVP of the season.

In reining, the final event of Friday’s competition, South Carolina won 3-2. Senior captain Chloe Gray turned in her second MVP ride of the season, defeating Randi Standley 71-68. Annie McDonald also scored a point for the Gamecocks, defeating the Aggies’ Courtney Dawe 66.5-65. Freshman Melia Blakely also added a point for South Carolina, as she won 68-67.5 over Becca Murray.

The Gamecocks continue their road trip on Saturday, as South Carolina travels to Waco to compete against Delaware State at the Willis Family Equestrian Center. South Carolina wraps up the road trip on Sunday when they compete against Baylor.
