WACO, TX – South Carolina’s road woes continued Saturday in Waco, as the Gamecocks dropped a 10-6 decision to Delaware State at Baylor’s Willis Family Equestrian Center. The loss drops the Gamecocks to 2-5 on the season and winless on the road.

South Carolina’s Western team edged out the Hornets in a raw score tie-breaker, 551-542.5. The Gamecocks’ Hunt Seat team lost 6-2.

Despite the 10-6 overall loss, the Gamecocks swept all four MVP awards on Saturday. Kelsey Hart (Equitation on the Flat), Carolyn Curcio (Equitation Over Fences), Johnna Letchworth (Horsemanship), and Chloe Gray (Reining) won MVP’s in their respective rides against the Hornets.

In Equitation Over Fences, Delaware State took three of four points from the Gamecocks. Freshman Kelsey Hart won her ride 82-80 over Caroline Foltz in her first competition as a Gamecock while also earning the MVP.

In Equitation on the Flat, Delaware State again won three of four points to claim the Hunt Seat competition. Junior Carolyn Curcio won her ride 84-68 over Amanda Hotz, earning Curcio her first MVP of the season. Curcio is now 5-2 in Equitation Over Fences this season.

In Reining, both the Gamecocks and Delaware State won two points. Senior captain Chloe Gray won her ride 73-67 and earned her second MVP of the weekend and third of the season. She also won her ride over No. 1 Texas A&M yesterday and was named MVP against the Aggies. Gray is now 4-2 in Reining this year. Freshman Jordan Brown added a point for the Gamecocks, winning her first collegiate point, 66-65.5.

In Horsemanship, both teams remained even as the Gamecocks and Hornets each won two points. Senior Hailey Thornton evened her Horsemanship record at 3-3 with a 73-64.5 win over Jennifer Pierson. Redshirt freshman Johnna Letchworth continued her winning ways on Saturday, as she won her ride 73.5-68.5. Letchworth improved her record to 4-1-1 while also winning her first MVP as a Gamecock.

South Carolina closes out its Texas road trip on Sunday, when the Gamecocks compete against Baylor.
