WACO, TX – South Carolin’s Hunt Seat team was eliminated from national championship contention Friday morning, as No. 3 seed Baylor put on a dominating performance en route to a 6-2 win.
The loss sends the fifth-seeded Gamecocks to the consolation bracket, where they will face No. 10 seed Tennessee-Martin on Friday afternoon at approximately 12:30 p.m. (Central). The Skyhawks fell to the consolation bracket after losing to No. 2 seed Georgia on Friday morning. Baylor advances to the semifinals, where the Bears will face the Bulldogs.
The Gamecocks struggled out of the gate early, spotting Baylor a 4-0 lead after failing to win a point in Equitation on the Flat. Paige Dekko, Colvin Hedgepeth, Victoria Middleton, and Kelsey Hart are dropped their points to their Baylor opponents.
Down 4-0 with only four points left to be won, the Gamecocks would have needed to sweep Equitation Over Fences and make up a 60 point raw score differential. Sophomores Kimberly McCormack and Alex Arute both won their rides, but Baylor took the other two points, pulling away for the 6-2 win.
