Men’s Soccer Banquet Feature |
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s soccer team held its annual awards banquet at 701 Whaley St., in downtown Columbia on Thursday evening. The group in attendance celebrated the 2010 season, and the team received their Conference USA Championship rings.
Senior defenders, goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer and central defender Will Traynor, were voted by their teammates as co-recipients of the Bill Lauritzen Defensive MVP Award. Senior forward Blake Brettschneider was awarded the team’s John Johnson MVP Award, and the Brian Winstead Offensive MVP Award. Sophomore defender Kevin Stam was awarded the Coaches Award, while junior Vance Benson and freshman Bradlee Baladez were the co-winners of the Strength and Conditioning Award, which was presented by strength coach Dan Austin.
The team also celebrated its run to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16 and the 2010 Conference USA Championship at the event. Athletics Director Eric Hyman presented those in attendance with their Conference USA Championship rings.
Also honored were those that earned All-Conference awards and academic awards throughout the year.
