COLUMBIA, S.C. – For the third-consecutive year, South Carolina will face Florida in front of a national television audience, as ESPNU has selected the Oct. 19 meeting at the Volleyball Competition Facility for the second year of its Wednesday Night Women’s Volleyball series. To accommodate the telecast, the match has moved to an 8 p.m. start time.
South Carolina has taken on the Gators in front of the Worldwide Leader’s cameras the past two seasons, including hosting the first ESPNU Campus Connection broadcast on Oct. 7, 2009, under the Southeastern Conference’s television deal with the outlet. In total, the Gamecocks have played on TV on 25 occasions since 1998.
ESPNU will show 17 regular-season volleyball matches in high definition this season as well as four conference tournament finals. Ten of the matches make up the Wednesday Night Women’s Volleyball series. Four of those come in two doubleheaders, including South Carolina’s match against Florida. That will be preceded by North Carolina at Duke, which is slated for a 6 p.m. first serve. Of the 17 matches, six feature SEC teams, the most of any conference.
The rest of the SEC’s television schedule will be announced at a later date.
The Gamecocks open the Scott Swanson era in Philadelphia, Pa., on Friday, Aug. 26 in the Temple Invitational against Montana at 3 p.m. EDT.
