DAHLONEGA, Ga. – South Carolina’s tandem of Meredith Swanson and Samantha Swinehart fired a 69 in the best ball format of the second round of the 2nd Annual Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team Championship Presented by the National Golf Coaches Association. The mark allowed the Gamecocks to hold their day-one position of 23rds in the now 55-team field with a combined score of 145. The event at Achata, by Reynolds concludes on Thursday with a round determined by the aggregate score of the two players.

The Gamecocks opened on the front nine Wednesday, playing a bit steadier than on Tuesday over the course’s first few holes. Sitting 1-over through six holes, Swinehart birdied the par-4 seventh. Swanson got the birdie on No. 8 to put the South Carolina duo at 1-under at the turn. Each player added another birdie on the back nine and pars through the remainder of the course delivered a 3-under round.

Swanson and Swinhart are tied for 23rd in the tournament, sharing the spot with Wisconsin’s tandem, behind 36-hole totals of 145. Three teams are tied for first at 133 – Vanderbilt, Virginia and Michigan State.
