COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian team will hold a mandatory meeting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, for those who wish to try out for the 2011-12 squad.

The meeting will take place in the CEO Room at the Carolina Coliseum on the University of South Carolina campus. This meeting is mandatory for those who wish to try out for the team. The CEO Room is located on the Blossom Street side of the Carolina Coliseum, adjacent to the faculty/staff parking lot. Click Here to view the campus map of the Carolina Coliseum.

Walk-on tryouts will be held on Monday, Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. at One Wood Farm in Blythewood, home of the Gamecock equestrian team.

At the meeting, the coaching staff will explain the tryout procedure and the expectations of being a student-athlete at the University of South Carolina. All riders need to be experienced in either horsemanship, reining, equitation on the flat or equitation over fences, in order to try out.

All interested riders will need to bring a copy of their Fall 2011 class schedules, as well as a front and back copy of their medical insurance card, to the meeting. Also, those who actually decide to attend the tryout session MUST have fully completed all the necessary paperwork, which will be discussed at the informational meeting.

Once the roster is finalized, all riders will be required to pass a fitness test before participating in the first practice of the season. As required by the NCAA, riders will have to go through the NCAA Clearinghouse process to be deemed eligible. If riders are not deemed a `qualifier’ or do not meet transfer requirements (if applicable) they will not be eligible to participate on the team.

Also due to NCAA regulations, those students who have been enrolled as a full-time student (12 or more hours) prior to the fall of 2007 will not be eligible to tryout.
