KALAMAZOO, Mich. – South Carolina incoming freshman Kyle Koch saw his run in the USTA Boys 18 National Championships come to an end on Wednesday as he lost in the fourth-round qualifying in the feed-in bracket of the event. It was his deepest run in the national event, matching his effort in the Boys 16 bracket in 2009.
After reaching the third round of the main draw, Koch picked up a win in the third round of the feed-in bracket to set up Wednesday’s outing against an opponent who also reached the third round of the main draw. Austin Ansari got the better of Koch 6-4, 6-3 to continue his run in the event.
In all, four Gamecocks competed in the USTA Boys 18 National Championships – Koch, Chip Cox, Andrew Adams and Ben Barnette – in both singles and doubles. Cox and Adams advanced to the third round of the feed-in bracket, while Barnette bowed out in the second round.
