COLUMBIA, S.C. – Sophomore equestrian Johnna Letchworth is one of eight “Fall Athletes to Watch” by The Daily Gamecock, the student-run newspaper at the University of South Carolina.
Letchworth earned a spot on the newspaper’s list after landing on the inaugural Varsity Equestrian All-America team, announced in April.
Letchworth turned in a successful freshman campaign, going 15-2-1 as the nation’s top Horsemanship rider. She went 11-1-1 during the regular season with four MVP’s, which earned her a spot on the All-America team. She then went on to post an impressive 4-1 postseason record, including a 3-1 mark at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships.
She was named Horsemanship MVP at the team’s end-of-season banquet, and in June, Letchworth took home first place at the OQHA Redbud Spectacular in Oklahoma City. She was also named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
The Gamecocks begin the 2011-2012 season on Friday, September 23 against Fresno State. The competition will begin at 2 p.m. at One Wood Farm in Blythewood.
