The South Carolina men’s soccer team (1-2-0) begins a stretch of two straight weekend tournaments on Friday when it travels to the Dartmouth Classic in Hanover, N.H. The Gamecocks will play host Dartmouth (0-1-1) and Bradley (3-0-1) at the two-day event.

Carolina Quick Hits
– South Carolina is in its 34th season of varsity soccer in 2011.
– The Gamecocks are led by head coach Mark Berson in his 34th season at the helm of the program. He is assisted by Bert Molinary in his eighth season and Mike Babst in his fifth.
– South Carolina collected its first win of the season on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over No. 21 Charlotte in the home opener.
– Senior captain Vance Benson scored the first goal of his career, the game winner, vs. Charlotte. He also contributed an assist on Carolina’s first goal in the match.
– Senior captain Stephen Morrissey tallied his first goal of the season vs. Charlotte. Junior defender Mike Mangotic registered his first assist of the season vs. the 49ers.
– South Carolina will play both Dartmouth and Bradley for the first time in its history this weekend.
– Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Alex Long collected his first college win on Tuesday vs. Charlotte. He earned three saves in the victory.
– South Carolina holds one of the youngest rosters in its recent history, with nine upperclassmen, compared to 19 combined freshmen and sophomores.

Scouting Dartmouth
– Dartmouth has played just two contests thus far in 2011, earning a 0-0 draw with Holy Cross in the season opener before suffering a 2-0 loss to then-No. 25 Boston College last Sunday. The Big Green has won three of the last seven Ivy titles (2004, `05, `08) and made NCAA appearances in six of the last seven seasons, including four straight (2004, `05, `07, `08, `09, ’10), advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2008 and 2010.

Scouting Bradley
– Bradley enters the weekend undefeated, after earning victories over then-No. 21 Butler, IPFW, Eastern Illinois and a 1-1 draw with Green Bay on Sept. 3. The Braves have not played since that match vs. the Phoenix. The Braves have scored eight goals in four games, while allowing just three opponent goals. The squad is paced by Bryan Gual who has four goals, including all three game winners, and two assists for 10 points on the year. Christian Meza has chipped in two goals, while netminder Brian Billings has played every minute in net for Bradley thus far, owning a 0.70 goals against average.
