SOUTH CAROLINA HEAD COACH Darrin Horn
Opening Statement
Well, I guess we are not going to be boring at home. It was another tremendous college basketball game. It was pretty fun to be a part of. Both teams played really hard and made a lot of different plays. I am happy that we were able to get the stops when we needed them and make the plays when we did. It was a total team effort. Obviously, Ramon Galloway was exceptional offensively tonight. He made some really big plays. Not just big buckets, it was when and how he did it. He got the crowd into it. The big three after the time out was a big play. But, it was a total team-effort. We did not do a very good job guarding the dribble. They spread us and hurt us early in the first half. They were driving on us too easily. I thought Lakeem Jackson did a terrific job guarding the ball. We made the plays that we needed to make and it was a total team effort and a really good win over a talented team.
On the play of Sam Muldrow
Well you are looking at a young man that had 28 points and six rebounds in a big game. I think that the biggest thing is that he is doing what seniors should do. He is making them when they count most. Whether it is a jumper from the baseline in overtime or the big three. He had a couple key blocks late. He is playing with a tremendous amount of desire to win, and he is really doing a good job for us right now.
On how well the team is handling close games
I’m not totally shocked by it. It is impressive, I think. At the same time, we try to recruit guys that want to be in that situation. A lot of that stuff late game is experience. We had a couple of bad plays and some defensive lapses, but I think we have a group of young men that really want to win. You can tell by some of the little plays that are made. They have done a good job of that without question. But, I am not totally surprised by it because we have the guys that want to be in that situation.
ARKANSAS HEAD COACH JOHN PELPHRY
Opening Statement
I thought both teams played very, very hard and competed. They forced our team to overtime and South Carolina won. We knew that we had to beat them; that they wouldn’t go away. They are a resilient basketball team and very well coached.
What happened in the last 2-3 minutes?
We didn’t take care of the basketball and weren’t able to finish plays.
Were you surprised by the play of Ramon Galloway?
No surprise. Good Player. He made a couple really big plays.
What did you do to get that lead?
I thought Julysses Nobles really came out in the second half got in the game and made some plays, steals and defense. He made some lay ups. A couple tough drives we were able to get to the free throw line. Then Marvell Waithe finishing around the basket, and obviously he made a big three. Both guys helped us get in position to compete in the game.
